I once spent an entire summer enjoying the heck out of a great rolling desk chair. I worked in an office on built with a clearly sloped floor. Sometimes in an effort to not roll away from our desks while we worked we would put wedges underneath the back wheels or we would simply hold onto our desks. You might at this point suggest we get new chairs without wheels but I would call you a joy-kill.
Instead, we loved our affordable office furniture for it’s conveniently placed wheels. It was fantastic to spend off time in the office having races and rolling breezily down on that angular flooring. The job, to clarify, was writing comedy at a magazine. Clowning around in our office chairs was not just a relief of stress but also a necessity.

More austere furniture can demand and define a culture of quiet professionalism and solid workmanship.
