Arts And Crafts For Mother’s Day

I remember when I was in school, the Friday before Mother’s Day was always a little relief from the soul-crushing work of reading, writing and arithmetic. For an hour or so in the afternoon all of the pressure would

melt away and we would simply make cards for our Mothers. I remember taking particular care with these projects, always sure to step up my creative game. These sort of projects always reflected better on me than my typical work with  things such as spelling or adding.

Arts and crafts supplies would be provided and I always felt most engaged when asked to be creative. I would write poems or short paragraphs about what Mom meant to me, then I would cut doilies, color, sketch, collage and generally create as if my life depended on it. It is funny looking back at how focused I could be when a task was this fun.

When I would give my Mother the card, made with such care and attention and adorned with some very nice art and craft supplies, she would inevitably love it. She still keeps those cards in a box in the attic. A box whose very mention can send her into tears. Obviously I must have done something right.
